Challenge

Our relationship with KEXP reaches back to 2011, when the vision for a new and more community-facing home for the station was just germinating.

While the station’s fundraising had been oriented toward on-air pledge drives, raising the necessary capital would require a comprehensive major gifts strategy and more horsepower.

Process

We began with a fundraising assessment to identify KEXP’s strengths and areas to develop. The next step was strategic planning, which crystallized the vision for the New Home as a community-focused space and underscored new ways KEXP would be able to enrich its audience members' lives beyond the on-air listening experience.

In the middle of 2012, we conducted a campaign planning study and recommended that KEXP move forward with a three-year campaign.

“Campbell & Company's Northwest division is an important part of our New Home team, providing critical campaign planning expertise to our first capital project.”

– Leesa Marie Schandel, Director of Development for KEXP

The station held a much-publicized grand opening ceremony in April 2016. With Campbell & Company as campaign counsel, the $15 million campaign surpassed its goal just one month later with a $500,000 gift from Paul Allen.

KEXP’s New Home is designed specifically to reach more music lovers, break down barriers between listeners and their favorite artists, and make it even easier to share new music and experiences with KEXP community members all over the world.

The new facility showcases live emerging artists, enables its studios to be open to the public, hosts educational outreach programs, expands its extensive music library, and contributes to the revitalization of Seattle's Lower Queen Anne neighborhood.
