California Major Gift Fundraising: A Research Study

California-Major-Gifts-CoverMajor giving is a critical part of funding for California nonprofits, which is why fundraisers and consultants are constantly discussing major giving best practices. But are these approaches working in practice?

In 2018, Campbell & Company set out to answer this question. Through a comprehensive survey and a series of interviews, we gathered information from California nonprofits across sectors to understand how organizations are approaching major giving and what is working well.

Through this study, we hope to help professionals and organizations in California better understand effective practices for major giving in the state. Major giving is a key part of philanthropy for California nonprofits, especially as the number of high capacity donors countinues to grow throughout the state. Nonprofits need to ensure their fundraising strategies reflect the importance of this donor group.
