About Cassie Carter
Cassie brings 25 years of passion and experience within the environmental advocacy and higher education sectors. She most recently served as Associate Vice President for Development and Director of Campaigns at Hawaii Pacific University, where she led a major gifts program that significantly increased private support for the University. Prior to that, she was the Associate Vice President for Development Operations and Director of Advancement for the College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. In this role, she oversaw the College’s development programs and led a successful capital campaign that established the Baker Science Center.
At Montana Outdoor Science School, Cassie served as Executive Director and worked closely with the board to create and implement an ambitious strategic plan. This plan formed the basis for a marketing campaign, new strategic partnerships, and creation of a more vibrant community of philanthropy. As the School’s primary fundraiser, Cassie also built many valuable local, state and national partnerships.
Cassie also brings a background in science education, having served as Director of Programs and Education for Heal by the Bay in Santa Monica, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to making area coastal watersheds safe, healthy, and clean. She has also held key roles at the California Science Center and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, where she created programs that communicated the importance and value of science to the public.
Dedicated to the nonprofit community, Cassie has served on the boards of Malama Maunalua (where she was a member of the Development Committee), Montana Nonprofit Association, Montana Environmental Education Association, National Science Teachers Association (including service on the Journal and Awards Committees), Children’s Museum of Bozeman, and the LA County Office of Education’s Science Education Advisory Council.
Cassie holds a doctoral degree in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on science education and public administration from the University of Southern California. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from California State University-Northridge.
