Event: Getting to the Heart of Your Case for Support
Friday, November 2, 2018: 10:15 - 11:15am in Chicago, IL at the Associated Colleges of Illinois Fall Conference
Successful fundraising communications begin with a strong case for support—the set of messages that you communicate to prepare your audience for a solicitation—yet many institutions struggle to define and articulate theirs. In this session, we’ll introduce a simple framework that breaks your case down into manageable “key messages” and show how to articulate these in powerful donor-ready language that works in everything from major donor conversations to direct mail pieces.
We’ll also talk about how to manage the process of case development—where building consensus and shared ownership is key, but too many editors can lead to a final product that satisfies no one. We’ll explore these ideas in the context of campaigns as well as ongoing institutional fundraising.
Through this session, we will cover:
- A straightforward definition that clarifies what your case needs to accomplish
- A simple working structure for defining your case without driving yourself crazy
- Lots of case examples from across higher education and the nonprofit sector
- A manageable process for developing your case for support
