Why is endowment an important source of revenue for your school? And what are some unique and creative ways to fundraise for your school’s endowment? Adam Wilhelm, Senior Consultant, Campbell & Company, will lead an educational webinar, based on a survey of over 1,000 independent schools across the country, focused on independent school endowments.

Adam Wilhelm specializes in fundraising activities including prospect analytics & research, major gift fundraising and campaign management. He provides counsel to a wide range of clients including independent and Catholic K-12 schools, colleges and universities and health related organizations.

Anne Hobbs, Director of Development, The Latin School of Chicago
Anne Hobbs serves as Director of Development and Alumni Relations for the Latin School of Chicago, a position
she held from 1991 - 1998 and from 2008 - present. Anne staffs two board committees: Latin’s development
committee and its committee on trustees. She has the pleasure of working with a team of eight exceptional
development professionals, who help advance the school’s fundraising and community building initiatives.
After serving as Development Assistant and Acting Director of Development for SGA Youth & Family Services, an
organization that supports the emotional and social development of Chicago area adolescents and young adults,
Anne joined The Latin School in 1991. In addition to serving in her current role, Anne has served as the school’s
Annual Giving Director and Senior Development Officer, as well as the Development Director for High Jump, a
tuition-free academic enrichment program for talented and motivated low-income middle school students that is
housed at Latin.
Anne has participated in the school’s efforts expand and renovate its campus, increase resources for financial aid
and faculty development, build its endowment, expand its alumni and parent relations programs, and to improve
the structure of its annual giving efforts, including the school’s special events. Two capital campaigns, 20 gala
events, multiple annual fund campaigns, and reunion weekends later, Anne has found that the formula for success
is based upon quality collaborative relationships between volunteer and staff leadership.
Anne graduated from Emory University with a concentration in history and anthropology. Anne and her husband
Steve have two children, both of whom attend the Latin School.
Erich Hunker, Assistant Headmaster, Development/External Relations, Columbus Academy
Erich Hunker is the Assistant Headmaster for Development/External Relations at Columbus Academy, a Pre-K through 12th grade coeducational, independent school serving 1,075 students and 3,000 alumni.
He has been at the Academy since July of 1999, and is responsible for the management, planning and coordination of the school’s fundraising, alumni relations and marketing/communications programs. In addition, he serves on the Development, Facilities, Finance, Marketing and Centennial Committees of the Board of Trustees, and has served on two Strategic Plan Committees and managed the facilities and maintenance department.
During the past twelve years, Erich has guided the school in its philanthropy efforts, helping raise over $38 million through annual, capital and planned gifts. In this time, the school’s Annual Fund has more than doubled to $1.5 million, with parent giving exceeding 78% participation and alumni support at 28% participation (both of which are well above national averages for similar schools). The school also held its largest-ever fundraising campaign, a $17.5 million effort, which was successfully completed within three and one-half years, and it is now in the Board phase of a $25+ million campaign. Erich is an alumnus of Columbus Academy – where his two children attend school – as well as The Ohio State University.
Prior to returning to his high school alma mater, he spent ten years in the zoo and aquarium field. Before his current position, Erich was at The Toledo Zoo where he headed all aspects of fundraising, membership, marketing and advertising. Under his leadership, The Toledo Zoo had one of the highest per-capita membership and visitor attendance rates for any zoo in the country; saw its corporate and annual support increase by 100%; attendance at its black-tie gala climb from 175 to over 2,000 guests with net revenue exceeding $250,000; and, a planned giving program and first-ever capital campaign were successfully launched. In addition, Erich was the creator and executive producer of the Zoo’s three-time EMMY award winning weekly television show, “Zoo Today.”
