Robert Alpaugh brings more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector to Campbell & Company and its clients, including work in fundraising, capital campaigns, facility planning, board development and engagement, governance, strategic planning, organizational structure and capacity building.

In his initial work with Campbell & Company, Mr. Alpaugh served as interim vice president for development at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  In this role, he assisted the Symphony’s new president in coordinating efforts among marketing, fundraising and public relations staffs while managing day-to-day fundraising operations as the Symphony searched for a permanent development leader.

Building organizational strength and capacity through capital projects is an exciting and challenging undertaking, and Mr. Alpaugh has had the distinction of managing several facility development projects.  He believes passionately that developing a new facility is only part of a larger vision: assuring that the organization is properly capitalized to complete the capital project without long-term debt and putting in place the reserves and endowment necessary for sustainability.  This requires careful planning at the very inception of the idea to build and making sure that the right team is assembled early in the process.

As a leader in the arts and cultural arena, Mr. Alpaugh has worked in opera, theater, dance and music, serving as executive or managing director of institutions such as the Joffrey Ballet, Williamstown Theater Festival, Arizona Theater Company and Victory Gardens Theater.

Mr. Alpaugh lectures frequently on nonprofit management, fundraising and board development.  He has served on the faculties of Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Emory University, Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina.  He volunteers with Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, the Arts & Business Council of Chicago and was on the Steering Committee for Bodies of Work: The Chicago Festival of Disability Arts and Culture, the first-ever city-wide festival showcasing disability artists and their work.
