Melissa Hanna has been an annual giving professional for eight years. She has extensive experience in development and implementation of personal solicitation programs, annual giving recognition societies, senior class and parent giving programs, e-solicitation, direct mail and phone-a-thons. She has also developed museum membership and annual giving strategies and implementation plans.
Ms. Hanna is currently is currently the senior director of the Office of Annual Giving at Iowa State University in Ames, IA.. Over the past several years, she has overseen dramatic increases in alumni participation and overall dollars raised. Ms. Hanna also served as the director of development operations for The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, a division of the University. In this capacity, she oversaw the Museum’s membership and annual giving programs and assisted in the implementation of a major endowment campaign. She began her development career as a student caller for the annual fund program at Iowa State University.
Ms. Hanna has been very visible as a participant and faculty member at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) annual giving conferences. Additionally, she co-founded the Southeast Student Development Forum, a leadership workshop for student fundraising staff.
Ms. Hanna graduated from Iowa State with a bachelor’s degree in history and is currently completing a master’s degree at Florida State University in public administration with an emphasis in nonprofit organizations.
