About James Plourde

James Plourde has the admirable ability to tell it like it is and work with you to get all of your stakeholders on board and moving in the same direction. With more than 30 years of development and marketing experience and several successful multimillion dollar campaigns under his belt, James is sought after for his:

  • Collaborative, personable style and co-creative approach to training and motivating staff and volunteers
  • Expertise in major gifts, strategic direction, and case development
  • Ability to keep projects focused and moving forward through all phases of growth and any challenges that arise
  • Deep regional knowledge of the South Puget Sound philanthropic environment

Prior to joining the firm, James held leadership roles in three capital campaigns at Pacific Lutheran University that raised more than a combined $220 million, supervised annual and capital fundraising and public relations for Charles Wright Academy, and led corporate and foundation relations at Franciscan Health System (now part of Catholic Health Initiatives).

James is committed to the advancement of the nonprofit sector and speaks regularly at conferences and workshops in the region. Recent presentations include "The Art of Donor Conversations" at the Washington Planned Giving Council 2016, “Volunteers: The ‘X’ Factor of Major Gifts” at the Northwest Development Officers Association Spring Conference 2014 and “Creating a Coordinated Campaign Effort,” at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District VIII Conference 2013.

A board member of AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) South Sound, James has also served on the board of the Children’s Museum of Tacoma. Additionally, he is a spiritual director with SEEL (Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life), an all-faiths organization for people who want to develop and deepen their spiritual identities.

James holds a Bachelor of Science in English from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master of Arts in Transforming Spirituality from Seattle University, and a Master of Science in Journalism from the University of Oregon.
