SURVEY: STAFF MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES VARY IN TOUGH ECONOMY
Organizations across the nonprofit sector are using combinations of staff management strategies, including salary freezes and layoffs, to deal with the recession, according to a survey Campbell & Company conducted in early July. Half of organizations reported that they are freezing salaries to contain human resources costs, and nearly half (47.4 percent) have instituted layoffs.

The "Campbell & Company Awards for Excellence in Fundraising" recognize nonprofit organizations that have developed creative, resourceful and inspired campaigns, initiatives, projects or techniques that have grown and increased the organization’s fundraising infrastructure, program and results. Winning organizations receive a $1,000 prize and the opportunity to present their ideas at the AFP International Conference on Fundraising in Baltimore, April 11-14th, 2010.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Tuesday, July 15, 2008 -- Charities are bracing for a decline in donations as the faltering economy takes its toll on pocketbooks nationwide. "I'm guessing we're going to see some falloff at the lower end of giving, because if people have to make a choice between filling up their gas tank and writing a check to their local charity, we know where that money's going to go," said Edith Falk, chief executive of nonprofit consultant Campbell & Co. The 2007 winner in the Campbell & Company Awards "small" category was the Frontier College Foundation in Toronto, Ontario. The second 2007 honoree, in the "large" category was The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The 2006 winner was the Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine for their "Honor Your Father Campaign for Prostate Cancer Research".
